Latin Americans celebrate Christmas in many unique ways but one thing that is common everywhere is the importance of music. And, while Latin America has many regional Christmas songs, it’s also adopted many American and European holiday standards. Latin Christmas celebrates both regional and global classics interpreted in son, bossa nova and other Latin and Brazilian styles. The album also includes a cocktail recipe for Coquito, or Puerto Rican egg nog.

While American icons such as Santa’s sleigh, evergreen Christmas trees and chestnuts roasting on an open fire are foreign concepts in most parts of Latin America, Christmas celebrations throughout the Americas share the same spirit of joy, gratitude and generosity. Each country in Latin America has its Christmas traditions, whether it be Puerto Rico’s aguinaldos (carols), Argentina’s Misa Criolla (Creole Mass) or the pan-Latin American El Dia de los Reyes (Three King’s Day).
